Digital Media & Fundraising Associate

WEST ISLAND COMMUNITY SHARES is a unique non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring help, hope and comfort are found close to home for West Islanders in need.  We raise crucial funds all year long to meet a broad range of community needs, be it cancer, autism, at-risk youth, hunger, mental health, and bullying.  
We are committed to building a strong and vibrant community where 1 in 5 West Islanders turns to a local community group for help each year.  The needs are real and we are hard at work to provide vital support to 41 local community groups that have a profound impact in the lives of our fellow citizens. This year alone, these groups changed the lives of 60,000 West Island residents, including 35,000 youth, 22,000 women and girls of all ages, and 6,400 seniors.

Position description

Under the supervision of the Executive Director:

This dynamic position will assist the Communications Coordinator and Events Coordinator on two main tasks
(1) executing the Community Shares digital media strategy, and (2) fundraising Campaigns.
The position is for four (4) days per week (Monday – Thursday). The candidate is required to have a vehicle for work to solicit sponsorships.
The occasional evening or weekend day will be required in order to attend all fundraising events.

Digital Media (reporting to the Communications Coordinator):

1. Creation, modification, and update of digital materials, including graphics.
2. Development of Community Shares website, including content updates
3. Coordinating all social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
4. Following the digital media strategy established by the Communications Coordinator, update
the social media channels before, during, and after fundraising events. Includes presence at
events to capture live and correspondence with brand followers in digital space.
5. Analyze and evaluate the performance of social media marketing programs to optimize
interactions with the community while meeting organizational brand communications
6. Execution of digital advertising products and services.
7. Optimizes tags and feed titles on sharing sites like You Tube, communities, and search engines
through copywriting, creative anchor text and keyword optimization.

Fundraising (reporting to the Events Coordinator):

1. Implementation of fundraising campaigns with small and medium-sized businesses (including
2. Identify and secure small and medium-sized sponsorships for fundraising campaigns and events.
3. Oversee all digital media visibility for campaigns, ensuring sponsors receive appropriate visibility
on our social media channels.
4. Assist with planning and execution of fundraising events.

Education & Experience:

 Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Marketing, Digital Media, Media Studies,
Communications, Commerce, etc.).
 1–2 years of experience in social media development (website management and social media
channels) and fundraising, ideally with experience in digital marketing, project management,
and event planning in the non-for- profit sector.
Required Skills
 Bilingual in both French & English: written and spoken
 Strong history of active participation as a marketer in social media channels such as Twitter,
Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
 Knowledge of social media analytics and market research
 Basic knowledge of graphic design for social media
 Proven experience in branding and running a campaign
 Problem-solving skills and able to work independently
 Ability to defend the needs and requirements of the organization to potential donors
 Strong team player and ability to work harmoniously with internal team and external
