Reporting to the Plant Manager, the scope of responsibility includes all of the following and others as assigned:
1. Oversee foundry processes; casting preparation, methods, alloying and casting.
Oversight of the foundry process is a key function of this role. Support and information will be provided on melt preparation and alloying materials to ensure the most cost effective production method. The role will provide valuable support in foundry methodologies for closure systems, processes and best practices.
2. Manage the metallurgical laboratory on site
Preparation of samples using: grinding, polishing and etching. Sample evaluation: mass spectroscopy, photomicrography, hardness and tensile testing. Maintain batch traceability for each batch of material. Accurately compile data and reports as needed. Practice safe work techniques and adhere to environmental, health and safety policies, guidelines and procedures
3. QA / QC
Liaise with our customers to ensure that molded parts are produced to required molding specifications, as well as recommendations and monitoring of cost control measures.
Various QA / QC activities within our quality system:
• Establish the necessary control points to guarantee the quality of the planned results,
• First Order and In-Manufacturing Inspections - Perform random product inspections as needed in the manufacturing process,
• NCR reports and root cause analysis as needed,
• Calibration - Help maintain calibration records of necessary devices.
4. Potential for R&D projects developing new high quality wear resistant alloys / materials.

Minimum qualifications required:
• EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Bachelor of Materials Science with a focus on Metallurgy (or above) from an accredited university.
• EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 to 3 years of practical foundry experience in the evaluation of various metals, experience in white cast iron is a major asset.
• Experience working with a quality management system, in particular ISO 9001 considered an asset.
• Bilingual; French - English considered an important asset.
• Must be authorized to work in Canada.
