General Accountant

Title: General Accountant
Status: Permanent, Full-time
Location: Montreal, Quebec (90% Remote)
Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Benefits + 4 weeks of vacation

Responsibilities:
• Maintain all regular accounting processes such as A/P, A/R, General ledger, Journal
entries plus the monthly closure of accounts.
o Administer all bank transactions and oversee data recording procedures.
o Ensure complete and accurate billings and timeliness of collection activities.
• Produce payroll by initiating computer processing, verifying finished product.
o Update and organize payroll reports, employee files, year end reports or audits.
o Respond to payroll inquiries from employees.
• Ensure integrity of information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions.
• Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling
transactions and resolving discrepancies.
• Summarize financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit
and loss, cash flow and other statements and necessary reports.
o Play a vital part in the company's financial management including all account
reconciliations and reporting to necessary parties.
o Focus on compliance with existing or new generally accounting principles, rules.
• Perform monthly financial statement/budget variance and other analyses.
• Complete external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and
providing information for auditors.
• Avoid legal challenges by complying with legal and contractual requirements.
• Assist in the design and preparation of budgets for review by management.
• Prepare business performance metrics.
• Focus on federal, provincial tax compliance, business registration, corporate tax filings.
o Secure financial information by completing database backups.
o Ensure standards & requirements are met by conducting quality assurance tests.
o Handle administrative tasks, maintain documentation including processes and
procedures, and prepare all contracts and terms of agreement for new IT projects.
o Maintain and reconcile IT inventory schedules.
o Track vacations/leaves of absence by maintaining calendars and staff reports.
o Assist with the entry and/or workflow associated with opening and closing
accounts, transfers, and other benefit and related payroll changes.


Requirements:
· Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
· Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• University degree in accounting or business administration.
• Previous experience in public accounting and with external audits, highly valued.
• Demonstrate good knowledge of accounting fundamentals and standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, highly organized to manage multiple projects
and priorities.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, sense of organization and ability to work
closely within a small, agile organization.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with discretion at all times;
· Bilingual: English and French
